Rethink The Grocery List

Making Small Changes to Incorporate Whole & Plant Based Foods

Each week, we are hoping to post a few small ways in which you can incorporate whole & plant based foods into your diet.  Our motto “don’t reinvent your diet, reinvent your grocery list!”

This week’s example:  Peanut Butter & Jelly!

Who doesn’t love a good PB&J sandwich?  They make for a great snack for kids and adults alike.  And L4L says, snack away!  But why not snack on whole grain bread, REAL peanut butter and preserves?

  • Ingredients in good preserves: cherries (strawberries, etc.), cane sugar, lemon juice, fruit pectin. Stay away from jellies that are loaded with refined sugar.
  • Ingredients in good peanut butter: dry roasted, unbleached peanuts (and salt should you roll that way!)
  • And remember, when looking for good grains, you want to find one or more of the following words: oats, oatmeal, whole, stone ground whole, whole wheat or stone ground whole wheat. Stay away from enriched breads.

Check out grocery stores like Whole Foods, Fresh & Easy or People’s Food Co-op. They are sure to carry these products!
